│ This is a VENDINFO Product Information Record │
│ │
│ This record is a means of conveying information about a software │
│ product from the author to distributors and users. It contains a │
│ normal, "human-readable" section (you're reading it now), followed │
│ by a compressed data record. The data record contains a great │
│ deal of information in a form useable by automated tools. This │
│ allows BBSes, disk vendors, etc. to test automatically for │
│ permission to distribute, and to automatically extract product │
│ information for use in BBS files databases, vendor catalogs, etc. │
│ │
│ The VENDINFO file standard is published and is freely useable. │
│ │
│ The VENDINFO toolset includes a free end-user viewer, processing │
│ tools for use by distributors (BBSes, shareware disk vendors, │
│ etc.), and the editor used by author/publishers to produce these │
│ records. These tools are either free or very-low cost shareware. │

===== Information for Users ("READ-ME") ================
This package contains wfListen version 3.00 by Prodigy Computing, an
add-on for WinFax Pro from Delrina Inc. This document contains only a
brief description of the package and its features, along with
instructions for its installation. Quite detailed documentation is
included in the package, but it is the form of a Windows helpfile and is
more easily read after installation.
If you're tired of shutting down WinFax when you want to dial in to
CompuServe, or if you're tired of not getting faxes because you forgot
to re-enable fax reception, then wfListen may very well solve your
problem.
WfListen comes with a comprehensive Windows Help file on disk. Please
consult that helpfile for questions you have about the program. This
file offers introductory documentation only.
To find out about wfListen before installing it: using Program Manager's
File | Run | Browse command, navigate to the file wflistn0.hlp and run
it. This gives a complete explanation of what wfListen is for, how it
works, how to install it, how to get support, and how to register it.
WfListen is a shareware program. This evaluation copy includes all
features of the program, and is not crippled in any way. You may use it
for up to 60 days, without charge.
If you like the program, and wish to continue its use after this
evaluation period, you are required to pay for the program. Any fee you
may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this
evaluation copy was a fee for their copying and distribution services,
not a payment for continued use of the program.
You can read the full details of your temporary trial-use licence, and
learn how to register the program, by running the program and pressing
the "Licence Info" button on the opening screen.
The benefits of registration are:
o Nag-free usage. When we receive your registration form we will send
you a registration number. Once you have entered the registration
number on the registration dialogue, the program will cease to nag
you about registration.
o Support. Registered users get guaranteed support for 90 days after
registration. If wfListen does not work with your combination of
hardware and communications programs we will do our best to fix it
so that it does work. Because wfListen interacts with other
programs, we can't promise to make it work in all cases. If we
can't fix the defect we will refund your fee.
o Peace of mind. The entire shareware concept is based on trust. The
continued availability of shareware depends on your willingness to
pay for software that you use.

===== Installation =====================================
The installation procedure for wfListen is quite simple. The package
includes a program, SETUP.EXE, which automates the entire process. For a
single-language installation you will need about 610 kilobytes of
available disk space on the hard drive on which you plan to install
wfListen. Allow 230 kilobytes for each additional language.
The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
wfListen.
INSTALLING FROM HIGH-DENSITY DISKETTE
A high-density diskette is a 3.5" stiffy (either 720Kb or 1.44Mb) or a
1.2Mb 5.25" floppy disk. If you have received wfListen on low-density
disks (360Kb 5.25" floppies) see the next section.
To install from high-density diskette, you need to perform the following
steps.
o Place the wfListen distribution diskette in the appropriate
diskette drive.
o Start Windows if it is not already running.
o Execute the SETUP.EXE program on the distribution diskette. Use
Program Manager's File | Run command, type "A:SETUP" in the
Command Line box, and press Enter.
o Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. The
program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
the wfListen files to that directory. It will prompt you to change
disks if necessary.
o WfListen Setup will also ask you to select a Program Manager
group. Specify the group where you keep your communications
programs. WfListen Setup will make a copy of that group and modify
the command lines inside it to launch the communications programs
using wfListen. You can drag the icons back to the original group
when you are happy that they work properly.
o If you're not using Windows Program Manager (for example, you
might be using Norton Desktop for Windows instead) wfListen Setup
won't be able to create a group as described in the previous step.
In this case, consult the section Using wfListen in the helpfile
WFLISTN0.HLP.
o WfListen Setup will make one entry for wfListen in your WIN.INI
file. But it will make no other changes; specifically, it will not
modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files.
INSTALLING FROM LOW-DENSITY DISKETTE
WfListen can not be installed directly from low-density (5.25" 360Kb
floppy) diskettes. If you have obtained wfListen in this format, it will
be in the form of one or more archive files.
To install the program, create a directory on your hard disk, for
example C:\TEMPDIR. You can use Windows File Manager's File | Create
Directory command to do this. Then copy ALL of the files (there may be
one or several) from the floppy disk to the directory you have created.
You can use Windows File Manager's File | Copy command to do this. Then
proceed as for "Installing from a Hard Drive" below.
INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
If you downloaded wfListen from a BBS (or received it in the form of
archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
following steps.
o Examine the archive files you have received: you will have
received the base package, WFLIS300. You may also have received
one or both of the optional files WFLIS30F (French language
support) and WFLIS30D (German language support). On CompuServe the
base package is called WFLISN and the optional files are called
WFLISF and WFLISD. If you are sure that you will only want
operation in English, you may immediately delete the two optional
files.
o If you want French or German language support but you do not have
the appropriate file, you can install the program for English now
and add the other language later. You should be able to obtain the
necessary file from the source where you obtained the base
package.
o Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
directory on your hard drive. The procedure for doing this
varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
perform this step. If not, you should be able to obtain
directions for this from the same source from which you received
the package.
o Start Windows if it is not already running.
o Execute the SETUP.EXE program which you have extracted. For
example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
the wfListen package is C:\TEMPDIR, use Program Manager's File |
Run command, type "C:\TEMPDIR\SETUP" in the Command Line box, and
press Enter.
o WfListen Setup will also ask you to select a Program Manager
group. Specify the group where you keep your communications
programs. Setup will make a copy of that group and modify the
command lines inside it to launch the programs using wfListen. You
can drag the icons back to the original group when you are happy
that they work properly.
o If you're not using Windows Program Manager (for example, you
might be using Norton Desktop for Windows), wfListen Setup won't
be able to create a group as described in the previous step. In
this case, consult the section Using wfListen in the helpfile
WFLISTN0.HLP.
o WfListen Setup will make one entry for wfListen in your WIN.INI
file. But it will make no other changes; specifically, it will not
modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files.
When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed wfListen
(C:\TEMPDIR, in the discussion above), including all its contents.
YOU'RE READY TO GO
Once you've completed the installation, you should consult the helpfile
(WFLISTN0.HLP) which has been installed. Do this by double-clicking the
"wfListen Help" icon in the new Program Manager group that wfListen
Setup has created. In particular, read at least the "Quick Start"
sections of the file WFLISTN0.HLP. That document will tell you how to
invoke the program, and will give you other information you need to
properly evaluate wfListen. We hope you find that wfListen makes your
use of communications programs alongside WinFax easier, smoother and
more fun.
=== Compatibility ======================================
FAX PROGRAMS
WfListen is designed for use with WinFax Pro from Delrina Inc. It will
not work with other fax programs. It has been tested with WinFax Pro
version 2 and WinFax Pro version 3 and with WinFax Lite.
COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAMS
WfListen has been tested with a wide variety of communications programs,
including
Com-It for Windows
CompuServe Information Manager for Windows (WinCim) 1.2 US version
CompuServe Information Manager for Windows (WinCim) 1.2 German version
Kermit 3.13
OzCIS
PCbel

The program WFLISTEN.EXE is made available voetstoots (a Roman-Dutch
legal condition that excludes, among other things, all supplier's
warranties of any kind, express or implied, against defects latent or
patent). You assume all responsibility for the adverse consequences of
any defects in the program. If the program does not work, or if it works
differently from the way you expected or intended or were led to
believe, your sole remedy is to stop using it. You may in certain cases
claim a refund of any registration fee you have paid.
